Pandemically Yours

Everything shut down due to Covid-19.  It was terribly stressful at first, when everything was still changing and being cancelled.  Then it was an odd, quiet bubble while we all waited. Then there was a lot of thrashing out of issues in DC theatre and beyond.  Then there was a national reckoning of racial inequality that is still very present.  Our political news is awful.  It feels like a slo-mo collapse. Our government is thrashing about and every state is deciding for itself how to manage the pandemic, which often means not managing it.  Half the folks I know have lost their jobs.  I still work part-time from “home” which is mostly at my fella’s house where I have more space and things are a bit quieter.  We all live in fear, and also in hope.

• Plumber for bathtub – it was all plugged up due to an incident with a handmade bath bomb and too many herbs.

• Work closed – picked up plants from work march 23. Furloughed for a month.

December sum-up

Events of Note:

• My sister and I helped my dad move from a cottage on a farm (where he’s been renting for five years) into a retirement community.  It was a big deal, and a big change. We have been receiving help from my mom and stepdad.  I did a lot of trips to home depot & thrift stores, and my sister did as well, plus a ton of setup and organization. He’s mostly settled now in the new place, and we are relieved that he will have better access to medical care, cleaning help, and a group of other older folks for socialization. We also deep cleaned the old cabin, and helped get rid of a lot of stuff. It’s still ongoing, but mostly getting there.
• Had a pandian massage / chill day in silver spring with Jen
• Went to Cthulupalooza (birthday party) for Cameron
• Catsat for three cats – Clementine, Geraldine Furraro, and Togo
• Work situation is getting better.  They have finally hired two more full timers, so the box office will be fully staffed in January for the first time in a half a year.
• Went to a beautiful winter solstice wedding of my friends Quill & Rebecca
• Made holiday spiced nuts
• Visited with my friend Krystle who has been in town over the holidays
• Did the usual rounds – xmas eve service with fella’s sister, xmas eve at my sister’s house, xmas morning with dad (this time at the new retirement place), xmas mid-day with fella’s family, xmas dinner at mom’s, then birthday.
• We took an exciting day trip to NYC, driving up and back to see two shows
• Went to a lovely fancy-dress party for my friend Allyson
• Am trying to prepare for a very busy January.

Theater Stuff:

• We performed our apocalyptic clown show out in VA for three performances.  It was fun and overall went well.  We also did a morning show of our circus show.
• We spent a week developing new material for a new fringe show, then a week working on old material for a summer tour of our vaudeville show.
• Have been not prepping enough for my next show, which starts rehearsal this evening.  Lots of accents, lots of comedy.  I’m a bit nervous, which is good.

• I haven’t been listening to audiobooks as i’ve been listening to accent recordings instead.  I finally gave up on Devil in the White City, growing tired of its sensationalism and unpleasantness.  I have a stack of unread books on my nightstand, on my kindle, and on my audio book list…

October / November sum up

Things that happened:

• Had a mini freak out, but turns out everything was fine
• Went wedding dress shopping with my sister – she’s getting remarried
• Went to value village a lot
• Saw my friend Courtney (from 4th grade!)
• Spent an evening with my Dad taking him to the Veterans’ Assoc ER for a fever
• Had lunch with Anna R. while she was in town
• Went to the RenFest closing party
• Got a flat tire in Bmore, got it fixed with triple a
• Had my 8 year anniversary with my fella
• Went to a bonfire at Sabrina & Mark’s
• Got my teeth cleaned at the dentist’s
• Went to a fundraiser thing for Tarot Reading
• Had a nice dinner over at Toby & Rachel’s
• Ate a lot
• Had a fun brunch @ David’s w/Krystle & Scott
• Updated my actor website
• Thanksgiving: breakfast w/dad, afternoon w/fella’s fam, evening w/mom

Theater stuff:

• Had pickup rehearsals and performed CabMac in Baltimore.  It went really well, the show was strong and we sold well and even made some money.  We also took the show to St. Mary’s college for a few shows and some workshops.
• Had a promo shoot for 39 steps, which is coming soon. I need to do some prep.

Work stuff:

• Work has been super crappy! My boss was bumped out in June and we’ve been without a supervisor for 5 months.  We are a captainless ship, and it’s not been going well.  My other co-worker just resigned as well, so now it’s me (part time and fairly unattached) and one new girl who has never been in charge before, trying to keep it together.  It ain’t great.  I’ve started shaking the tree and writing other senior members of the staff for help.
